Violinist, Hope Cannon to Perform Solo of New Concerto with the
Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra
Violin Concerto Premier at GPYO's Season Finale on May 15th
Princeton, New Jersey - Hope Cannon, Concert Mistress with
the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra, has been selected to perform the
violin solo in a new concerto to premiere at GPYO's season finale on May
15th at Richardson Auditorium, Princeton University at 8:00 p.m.
Tim Keyes composed this new concerto, entitled Colorado.
Inspired by the spectacular scenery of the American West,
this new concerto in five movements was composed for and dedicated
to violinist Hope Cannon. Under the accomplished baton of Maestro
Fernando Raucci, the esteemed Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra will
accompany Cannon in this exciting new composition.
A senior at Montgomery High School in Skillman, Cannon has been studying
violin for 12 years, currently under the tutelage of Ruotao Mao.
Cannon is also Concert Mistress with the Montgomery High School Orchestra
and the Giovanni Virtuosi Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Eric
Jorgenson. Cannon has been a member of the Greater Princeton Youth
Orchestra, the GPYO Chamber Orchestra and the GPYO String Quartet for
three years. Cannon is also Concert Mistress with the St. Charles Borromeo
Orchestra in Skillman, conducted by its Music Director, Tim Keyes, composer
of Colorado. This fall, Cannon will be attending college, double-majoring
in Violin Performance and Pre-Medicine.
GPYO's May 15th concert at Richardson Auditorium is the finale for its
overwhelmingly successful 2003-2004 season. Sponsored by the
Princeton-Pettoranello Foundation, this event will be GPYO's Third Annual
Italian-American Cultural Exchange Concert. In keeping with this theme,
this concert will feature the magnificent Pini di Roma by Respighi,
contrasted against the awe-inspiring Colorado by Keyes. In celebration
of both Italy and America, these two great works will underscore the
majesty, splendor, and beauty of Italy and America's great landscapes.
For ticket information to this concert, call: 609-683-0150 or visit GPYO website
